Way back in the 60’s it was all about ‘back to the land’ and ‘going to the country’. Well, now the next generation is coming back from the country to report on their progress. According to Ali McCormick, things are really fine there. On her 3rd album “That Place You Know” she tells stories of growing up and hanging out in her beloved rural setting. We get songs about fishing, collecting empty beer bottles for the extra money, freshly baked pies or simply enjoying the uncomplicated lifestyle. Known as the “Lioness Of Lanark” she has crafted an album of fun and joy. Her voice is a warm instrument that soothes like maple syrup without the calories. This followup to her “Clean Water” album is about as solid and melodic as it gets. Without straining she has presented a work that satisfies and invigorates while inviting you to kick up your heels to her pickin’ and grinnin’ folk tales. Listening to Ali is as close as many will get to moving to the country, but it leaves one feeling the mud between your toes and a calmer spirit and we thank her for it.
